Após a viagem de retorno que para não fugir a regra não ficou livre de problemas, visto que o OLD SMUGGLER ficou em Fernando de Noronha apresentando problemas que impediram o prosseguimento da viagem, todos os operadores retornaram via aérea, o que aumentou ainda mais os custos da operação. Das 128 horas de permanência nos rochedos o PW0S esteve noa ar por apenas 48 horas e 31 minutos. Durante esse período foram logados aproximadamente 7.800 QSOs, dos quais 5.200 já foram digitados. Estamos aguardando apenas os primeiros contatos que estão registrados no laptop do JIM - PY7XC que apresentou problemas na fonte de alimentação. Até o final desta semana teremos o log concluído e disponibilizado nesta página. Estão disponíveis novas fotos da operação.

After the return trip, that also bring some problems, since OLD SMUGGLER had to stay in Fernando de Noronha Island after some troubles that stopped the trip there, all operators had to return home by plane, what increased the cost of the operations even more. They stayed on the rocks for 128 hours but due to all the problems they could operate only 48,5 hours. During this period they logged around 7.800 QSOs and 5.200 are already on the final log. We are waiting for the QSOs that were made on the begining of the expedition and logged with JIM´s (PY7XC) laptop that burned the power supply. We hope that until the next weekend all the log will be finished and posted on this site. New pictures of the expedition are already available.

Devido a previsão de mudanças bruscas nas condições climáticas, a partida do grupo foi antecipada para hoje. O OLD SMUGGLER já está no caminho de volta. PW0S já está QRT. Boa viagem ao grupo.

16.FEV.2001 - 16:00Z

Ontem à tarde, mais uma vez, muita chuva nos rochedos. Justamente na hora que iniciaram as atividades em RTTY nos 20 metros, choveu muito forte e eles tiveram que fechar a estação após alguns contactos, visto que ja estavam com muita água dentro da tenda. À noite foram spotados nos 40 e 80 metros CW/SSB. Tentaram os 160 metros às 03:00Z mas a propagação não ajudou. Pela manhã de hoje, após alguns contactos locais nos 40 metros, foram para 10 metros rtty onde ficaram toda a manhã, como também fizeram alguns contactos nos 12/17 metros. A progamação seguinte, como já divulgado, será o desmonte da estação, e preparação para a saída dos rochedos amanhã (sábado) logo cedo. O grupo nos informou que um rádio e a antena zeppelin estarão ativando PW0S nas bandas baixas até quando for possível. E por incrivel que possa parecer, hoje o sol apareceu, após todos esses dias de chuvas. Boa viagem de volta à bordo do OLD SMUGGLER e parabéns a todos pela operação. Estamos aguardando as fotos ON THE ROCKS, como também os logs para colocar neste site, o mais breve possível..

Yesterday afternoon, once again, heavy rain on the rocks. Just at the time they started the RTTY activity on 20 meters, they got a lot of rain and they had to close the station after some contacts on that mode, since the tent were already floaded. At night we saw a lot of spots on 40/80 meters (beautiful CW pile-up 80m CW Jim) cw and ssb. They made a try on 160 meters cw at 0300Z but no propagation at all. Today, early morning, after some local contactos on 40 meters ssb, they moved to 10 meters and operated all morning there on rtty, and also some qsos on 12/17 meters.The following activities, as it was already announced, will be the preparation leave the rocks saturday early morning. The group informed that one radio and the antenna zeppelin will remain activating PW0S on the lower bands as longer as possible. And too late to make them happy, the sun appeared today, after all those rainning days...Have a good and safe trip back home on board of OLD SMUGGLER guys and warm congratulations for the FB expeditios. We are waiting for the pictures ON THE ROCKS and the logs to be posted here as soon as possible.

15.FEV.2001 - 12:00Z

A tempestade de antes de ontem, quase que levou a expedição a um final antecipado. Trovões, relâmpagos (inúmeros), vento muito forte etc. Eles realmente passaram por maus momentos nos rochedos. Além de toda essa confusão, um dos geradores apresentou problemas (travou) e ao que parece não podem mais usar amplificadores (a ser confirmado). Um dos lap-tops está QRT (queimou a fonte de alimentação), mas eles continuam as atividades. Eles passaram o dia quase todo ontem nos 17 metros (CW e SSB) e também nos 6 metros. A noite ativaram 40/80/160 metros seguidos já na madrugada de hoje, de 20/15/10 e 12 metros onde estão neste momento (24,948) ouvindo 5 a 10 acima. A partir de 03:00Z de amanhã, deverá estar novamente nos 160 metros CW. Esta tarde (quinta-feira), eles vão tentar RTTY nos 20 metros, entrando pela noite adentro. A Comunidade Mundial de Radioamadores, deve entender que eles estão lutando com dificuldades fora do controle deles (ou melhor ACIMA do controle deles) e eles estão fazendo o possível e o impossível para manter PW0S no ar. Ainda não sabemos se eles vão parar a operação na sexta-feira ou no sábado. Desde o início os planos anunciados eram de cinco dias de operação. Nós pedimos para que eles ficassem um dia mais e eles responderam que dependia de quanta comida, água e gasolina estariam disponíveis. Vamos esperar e ver o que acontece. Aguardamos novas fotos após o encerramento da operação.

The big storm two days ago, almost put the expedition to an antecipated END. Thunderstorm ,lightnings (big ones)high speed winds etc.They really had a very bad time. After all that mess, they also had problems with one of the generators and it seems that they can't use amps anymore (to be confirmed). One lap-top also is qrt (the power supply is burned) but they continue to be active. They spent all time yesterday on 17 meters cw and phone and also on 6 meters. At night some 80/40/160 meters followed by 20/15/10/12 meters this morning. Today 1200Z they will start on 6 meters looking for Caribean area and also USA. After that they will lbe looking for Europe. Just now they are on 12 meters ssb 24948 listening up Starting 0300 Z (Friday) look for them again on 160 meters CW.. Today afternoon they will try rtty. Amateur Radio Community aroun the world must realize that they are fighting against difficulties out of their control, (or I must say above their control ) and they are doing the best they can to maintain PW0S on the air. We still don't know if they are going to stop Friday or Saturday. Since the begining, the plans were fixed for five days of operation. We asked them for one day more and they answered it depends of how much food, water, and gazoline we will have available, so let's wait and see We are expecting new photos after the end of the expedition

14.FEV.2001 - 18:00Z

Ontem, a partir das 20:00Z PW0S deixou de ser spotada nos clusters, só voltando às atividades esta manhã, nos 17 metros (18078/cw e 18145/ssb) onde permaneceu durante quase todo o dia. Pelas previsões do tempo, para aquela área, concluimos que estavam QRT devido a chuvas. Esta previsao se concretizou quando recebemos através do Peter-PY5CC informações a ele passadas pelo Elísio. Foi muita chuva, trovões, relâmpagos e um vento forte que só não levou a tenda/equipamentos graças ao Ciro PY7ZY que ficou segurando tudo até a tempestade passar. Com isso, um dos geradores travou (não sabemos se definitivamente ou se nosso expert em geradores - PT7BZ Elísio ) vai dar um jeito. As antenas de fio (30/40/80/160) foram levantadas e esperamos alguma atividade para esta noite.Para RTTY estão tentando resolver o problema de RFI no Lap-top. Os primeiros QSOs em 6 metros já foram feitos com Europa e América do Norte. Hoje à noite devemos ter abertura para a America do Sul. (Obrigado Peter).

Yesterday, since 20:00Z, we couldn't see any spots of PW0S on the clusters, and only this morning they started activities again on 17 meters (18076/cw and 18145/ssb) where they parked for almost all day. As per the WX predictions we concluded that they should be qrt due to heavy rain. That prevision materialized when we received from Peter-PY5CC, information that he got from Eli-PT7BZ. They got a big thunderstorm, with lightnings,and wind that almost carried the tent/equipments to the water. Say thanks to Ciro-PY7ZY that despite all that trouble, remained inside the tent holding everything untill the end of the storm. After that one of the generators refused to turn on (we don't know if definitly or if our expert PT7BZ is going to fix it. The wire antenas for 30/40/80/160 are up and some activity is expected for tonight. For RTTY they are trying to solve RFI problems on the Lap-top. They already made some QSO's on 6 meters with North America and Europe. Tonight we may have an openning to South America (Thanks Peter).

13.FEV.2001 - 11:00Z

Após os atropelos do primeiro dia de operação, seguem as atividades desde os rochedos de São Pedro e São Paulo. Ontem eles estiveram bastante ativos apesar de apenas a vertical AV620 da Hy Gain e a TA33jr. Hoje eles vão montar as antenas de fio para as bandas baixas e tambem a YAGI de 5 elementos para 6 metros como também deverão dar inicio ás operações em RTTY. Infelizmente já houve a primeira baixa pois a oscilação da corrente queimou a fonte do laptop do Jim PY7XC. Hoje eles vão também ter condições de usar o gerador maior e conseqüentemente os amplificadores. A operação segue normalmente com seu final previsto para sexta-feira

After the normal problems of the first day of operation, the activities are developing well from St Peter and St Paul Rocks. Yesterday they have been very actives despite no amplifiers, and only the vertical up. Today they will put up the low band antenas and also the 6 meters yagi. They will also start the rtty activity. Unfortunattly Murphy is already there and they lost one of the lap tops due to sever oscilation of power line from the generator that burned the lap top power supply. Today also they will pick-up the big generator from the boat so that they will be able to use the amplifiers. The operation follows untill next Friday.

12.FEV.2001 - 20:00Z

Finalmente o grupo conseguiu desembarcar nos rochedos de São Pedro e São Paulo e às 19:35 Z foi feito o primeiro contacto entre PW0S (op. Jim PY7XC) e PY7ZZ , em 21,270. Eles estão todos bem e de imediato uma estaçao foi montada utilizando uma vertical AV620 da Hy Gain enquanto era montada a direcional de 3 elementos. A operação será encerrada na próxima sexta-feira em horário a ser divulgado pelo grupo. Assim que ficar decidido, a informação será colocada nesta página

Finally the group was able to land on St Peter St Paul Rocks and at 19:35Z, the first qso was made between PW0S( with PY7XC-Jim as the operator) and PY7ZZ on 15 meters 21,270. They are OK and first a vertical AV620 (Hy Gain) was mounted to the first qsos. The rest of the group was putting up the 3 elements yagi beam. The operation will finish next Friday and the group will fix the time they are closing the station. As soon as they decide, we will put the information on this site.

11.FEV.2001 - 23:00Z

Conforme informações dos pescadores, profundos conhecedores de tudo o que se refere ao mar de S. Pedro e S. Paulo, a agitação verificada nesses últimos dias foi fora do normal. Má sorte. Hoje a tarde o PY7ZY conseguiu desembarcar, embora com alguma dificuldade e retornou ao OLD SMUGGLER. Amanhã, dia 12 às 12:00Z eles vão tentar desembarcar e a possibilidade de êxito é de 90%, conforme informações do grupo. Caso se concretize o desembarque, esperamos que por volta das 17:00Z, a primeira estação esteja no ar. Mais uma vez, boa sorte a todos.

As it was informed by the local fishers, that more than anyone know everything connected to the sea of St. Peter and St. Paul Rocks, the activities verified on the last few days, were really very unusual. Bad luck. This late afternoon PY7ZY was able to make a difficoult landing and after that, returned to OLD SMUGGLER. Tomorrow, Feb 12th, they will try landing at 12:00Z with 90% of possibilities of success as per it was informed by the group. Since the landing is succeeded, we hope that around 17/18:00Z, the first station will be on the air. Once again, GOOD LUCK to them all.

Após contato com o OLD SMUGGLER a previsão do desembarque é para amanhã dia 11 devido as condições permanecerem adversas. Hoje haverá nova tentativa de transmissão de fotos via SSTV. Aguardem.

Acabei de fazer contacto com o PT7BZ/MM e infelizmente as condições não permitiram o desembarque hoje. Muito vento e ondas muito altas que quase cobriram os rochedos. Outra tentativa será feita amanhã cedo. Eles vão tentar enviar fotografias via SSTV mostrando as condições. Se tudo der certo, as fotos serão colocadas neste site .Boa sorte pra eles. (Fred - PY7ZZ)

I just made a contact with PT7BZ/MM and inffortunatly the landing was impossible today due to high sea and wind. The big waves almost covered the rocks. They will try again tomorrow morning. They will try to send pictures showing the situation via SSTV tonight. If all OK the photos will be on this site later on. Good luck to all of them. (Fred - PY7ZZ)

OLD SMUGGLER made it and is just now in front of St Peter and St Paul Rocks and begining the landing. The expected start of the adtivities for today at around 15/16 00 GMT is now confirmed. 09.FEV.2001 - 00:30Z

O OLD SMUGGLER esta neste momento a 75 milhas dos rochedos e por volta das 0200Z do dia 9, estará cruzando a linha do Equador. A chegada aos rochedos está prevista para às 13:00Z do dia 09. Se as condições do tempo estiverem boas, às 16:00Z a primeira estação estará no ar em 21 mhz ssb. A previsão de duração da expedição é de 5 a 6 dias. As frequências serão as seguintes:

The OLD SMUGGLER is actually 75 milles from the rocks and at around 0200Z they will be crossing the Equator line. The arrival on the rocks is expected to 1300Z, same day (Feb 9th). Depending of the WX condx, at 1600Z, the first station will be on the air, probably on 21 Mhz SSB. The expedition is expected to be on the air untill next Wednesday or maybe Thursday next week.The operating frequencies will be as follows:

Mais um operador fará parte do grupo que irá ativar o Rochedo São Pedro e São Paulo. André Sampaio - PY0FF se juntou ao grupo durante a escala em Fernando de Noronha. Está levando, inclusive, um TS60 para 6 metros que ficará ligado 24 horas por dia na frequência de 50.006 MHz - beacon com uma antena direcional de 5 elementos e equipamento completo para SSTV.

One more operator joined tre group with destination to St. Peter St. Paul Rocks. André Sampaio - PY0FF decided to join the group during the stop in Fernando de Noronha Island. He is taking his Kenwood TS60 for 6 meters operation and Five elements yagi antenna. Pay attention to 50.006 Mhz - 24 hours on the air. He is taking also complete station for SSTV.
